The Dallas Mavericks acquired one of the most skilled players of all time back in February as they sent Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and multiple picks to the Brooklyn Nets for Kyrie Irving.

Dallas also received Markieff Morris in this trade, and it looks like he is coming back to Dallas on a one-year deal.

It was reported a few weeks ago that Dallas was planning to re-sign Morris, but nothing had been made official until September 16. Mavs PR reported that Morris is re-signing with Dallas and will wear No. 88 this coming season.

Morris wasn't a player that many people expected to come back to Dallas, as his role was limited after being acquired in the Kyrie Irving trade, and he will likely play a similar role next season.

Last season for Dallas, Morris averaged 4.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game while shooting 36.4 percent from downtown. Dallas won't need much from Morris, as they already have plenty of wings, but having him back for a veteran minimum contract isn't a bad move.

Dallas needed a veteran presence for the end of the bench, and Morris can provide that in more.

He is also a player who isn't afraid to stand up for his teammates, and the Mavs needed someone like that too. The most recent buzz surrounding Morris was this week when he hopped on a podcast and said, "He's going to get his though," when talking about his altercation with Nikola Jokic back in 2021.

This isn't the best look on Morris' part, as he publicly said this about Jokic, but it does show the type of intensity that Morris plays with. He isn't going to back down from anyone, including Jokic.

We'll have you covered with all the latest news and rumors surrounding the Dallas Mavericks and Markieff Morris this season, so stay tuned.
