Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic has developed a reputation for complaining to officials. He narrowly avoided suspension two straight years after his 16th technical foul was rescinded both times. Doncic is one of the best players in the world, but his frustrations with the referees have cost Dallas too often.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon wrote a fantastic piece about players dealing with officials where he called Luka the “(reddened) face of complaining to referees”, and he shared two of Doncic’s tricks to to avoid getting T'd up. Fans know Luka tries singing songs under his breath, but MacMahon reported a fresh one on April 24.
Number 77 avoids swearing at referees in English. The multilingual 24-year-old superstar uses profanity in several languages to avoid drawing technical fouls. It has not worked as well as fans would like, but it is an interesting strategy.
