Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic went off for 51 points to lift his team over the San Antonio Spurs on New Year’s Eve. It was his third 50-point game in the last five, and it was the Mavs' sixth straight victory to close out the year.

Doncic scored 526 points in December over 15 games. His 35.1 points per game were the most in a month in Mavericks history. He broke Mark Aguirre’s record for the most 40-point games in team history on Dec. 31 too.

It was an incredible year for Luka and the Mavericks. They went on a tear to reach the conference finals last season before finishing it on a six-game win streak to move to fourth in the Western Conference. Dallas was 56-28 in regular season games in 2022, and Luka took a moment to celebrate his incredible and historic year.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich had plenty of praise for Luka Doncic on Saturday night. Here is a look at what the legendary coach said pregame.

Fans also got a Josh Green injury update. He has missed the last 12 games with a sprained elbow, but head coach Jason Kidd said he is doing non-contact work right now. He has to wait for his symptoms to subside before taking contact, but Kidd was coy on when he thought Green would be able to make that progression.

NBA news

Luka Doncic stole the headlines, but the Brooklyn Nets won their 11th straight game on New Year’s Eve as they dominated the Charlotte Hornets. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are both playing at an elite level as the Nets have surged to second in the Eastern Conference to open 2023. Do not look now, but nobody is looking forward to taking on the Nets.

The Dallas Mavericks travel to Houston to face the Rockets for the third time in the last six games on Monday night. Luka Doncic has a 50-point game and a 35-point triple-double in the two contests. What can he do next? Tune in to find out, and enjoy the game.
