The Dallas Mavericks made one of the biggest trades in franchise history back in February as they sent multiple draft picks, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Spencer Dinwiddie, to the Brooklyn Nets for Kyrie Irving.

Dallas went all in on landing Irving, as they typically don't have the best luck in free agency, so they tested their luck on the trade market, landed Irving, and got him to re-sign on a three-year deal this summer.

Even during the season, Irving seemed to know that the trade was for the long-term, and all signs were pointing to him staying with Dallas this offseason.

NBA Writer predicts Mavericks to trade for third star player

Even though the Mavs have one of the best duos in the NBA in Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, Dallas still needs more players around them. The Mavs rebuilt this duo this summer, but it may not be enough to contend for a championship in the loaded Western Conference.

One NBA Writer thinks that the Mavs will trade for a third star to go all in this season.

Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report thinks that Dallas could make a move for that third star at some point next season before the trade deadline, and he listed Karl-Anthony Towns as a potential target.

The Mavs already have been rumored to pursue a new starting center through the trade market multiple times this summer, with Deandre Ayton and Clint Capela being their rumored targets. A trade for a new big man like Towns could take the Mavs to the next level as it would form one of the best big threes in the league.

Last season for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Towns averaged 20.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks per game. Towns was injured for most of the season, and he is set to become a free agent next summer.

He would be a great buy-low candidate at the trade deadline if the Mavs can avoid giving up a first-round pick, but it would only be a smart move if Dallas thinks they can make a push for the NBA Finals that season. A 30-game rental of Towns wouldn't be worth it if Dallas wasn't contenders at the time of the trade.

Will the Dallas Mavericks make a trade for a third star like Karl-Anthony Towns next season or will they roll with the roster they have?
