Mock trade sees Mavericks add Clint Capela in three-team trade with Hawks, Raptors
The biggest unknown of a potential Pascal Siakam trade is his expiring contract. Will the former All-NBA player re-sign with his potential new squad?
Apparently, Siakam may not be the most inclined to sign an extension with the Atlanta Hawks if they were to trade for him. However, this may just be because he prefers to stay with the Toronto Raptors. Or it could be because he just doesn't want to play for Atlanta.
Either way, taking a chance on a player of Siakam's caliber would be reminiscent of what Toronto did just a few years ago with Leonard. Although Siakam isn't quite on the same level as Leonard, adding an All-Star talent to the Hawks lineup makes a lot of sense.
Atlanta has a solid starting lineup in place with two All-Stars in Trae Young and Dejounte Murray. Adding Siakam would potentially place Atlanta among the East's premier teams.
Here's the framework of a potential deal:
In this hypothetical trade, Toronto would receive De'Andre Hunter, rookie Kobe Bufkin, a 2024 first-rounder, and two second-round picks from the Hawks. They would also receive Tim Hardaway Jr. and a 2025 second-round pick from the Dallas Mavericks.
Something to take note of - with the inclusion of rookie Kobe Bufkin, the trade would not become official until August 2nd, as Atlanta would have to wait 30 days since the signing of Bufkin.
The Hawks would receive Pascal Siakam from the Raptors and Javale McGee from the Mavericks. This trade is centered around Siakam, so any additional players Atlanta will receive would be marginal at best.
Last but not least, Dallas would receive Clint Capela. Capela is essentially collateral in this deal. Toronto would not want to take on another rim-running center after recently re-signing Jakob Poeltl. Furthermore, Atlanta would be freeing up minutes for emerging big man Onyeka Okongwu and sending out matching salary in order to acquire Siakam.
Next, we'll take a look at individual grades for Toronto, Atlanta, and Dallas while exploring how this trade will affect each team.
