NBA analyst reveals one thing Luka Doncic must change to win MVP
Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic is coming off his best season as a professional basketball player.
To add to his resume, he has already high expectations in the near future, and he could take those expectations to new heights in his professional career with one award.
The MVP.
One NBA analyst believes that while Doncic does have to clean up some issues, he's giving Doncic some grace and believes he can be the one to win MVP one day.
Luka Doncic must stop complaining to referees to win MVP
Doncic has always found a way to help his team whenever his Mavs were doubted. For many, this year's MVP race was between three guys who could win at any point in their prime.
Some might say that Doncic was robbed of the award last season. With the Mavs adding depth to their supporting cast, all Doncic is thinking about is becoming an NBA Champion. In terms of his MVP argument, NBA analyst Tim Legler had some advice for the Slovenian superstar.
On the "ALL NBA Podcast," Legler pointed out the positives for Dallas this offseason, like the signings of Klay Thompson and Naji Marshall, but he also pointed out Doncic and his outlook for the 2024-25 season.
While Doncic broke many records last season, it wasn't enough to win MVP. In order to change that, Legler says it's his body language and physical nature will have to improve.
"What does he look like at the beginning of the year?" Legler asked. "What's his body look like? What's his conditioning look like? What's his approach look like?"
Legler basically goes onto say, if it's the same Doncic complaining to officials and not getting back on defense, then it's just the same guy as before.
Legler is still giving Doncic positive feedback for next season.
"I'm giving (Doncic) the benefit of the doubt that he's going to learn from what happened last year and take that to heart and really push himself this year. I think this a good shot coming up this year for Luka to win his first MVP."
- NBA analyst Tim Legler
2023 was a mentally challenging year for Doncic, from missing the playoffs, to his first daughter Gabriela being born.
Doncic is just too good at this point in his prime to not win MVP, and he certainly can do it someday.
