The Dallas Mavericks lost the Pelicans on the second night of a back-to-back to fall to eighth in the Western Conference, but that was not the worst news of the night. Superstar Luka Doncic appeared to re-injure his thigh during the game. He had played through the injury for more than a week, but things became too painful and LD was forced to exit in the third quarter.

Number 77 had an MRI on Thursday, which Adrian Wojnarowski reported did not show anything. The ESPN scribe noted that could “return as soon as discomfort allows him”, but there was no update on how long that would be. Luka is getting treatment, and fans know he wants to continue playing through the injury.

The Mavericks offered an update on March 10 ahead of Saturday’s showdown against the Grizzlies in Memphis. Here is a look at the latest on Luka’s thigh and what it means for his team.

Luka was ruled out for Saturday’s game. Doncic will continue to get treatment with the hopes of playing when the Mavericks host the Grizzlies on Monday night. He needs some time to rest, but the injury appears not to be serious.

Hopefully, it will be a short absence for Doncic. He could play on Monday, but Dallas will be in no rush with their superstar. The Mavs need him healthy in the postseason if they are going to make a run, so they cannot afford to let this injury linger over the next month.

Every game matters with the standings so crowded, so expect Luka to get back on the floor as soon as possible. The Mavericks need to finish strong over the 15 games to avoid the Play-In Tournament, and Doncic has no plans of letting his season come down to one game.

With Luka Doncic out, Kyrie Irving will take over as the team’s leading scorer and offensive engine. The Mavs are 2-0 in games Luka Doncic has missed since the trade, and Irving is more than capable of leading Dallas to wins. Irving missed practice on Friday for personal reasons, but the team is hopeful he will join them in Memphis.

Can the Mavericks win the non-Kyrie minutes without Luka? They do not have a true playmaker to turn to when Irving needs a rest, so those minutes could get a bit hairy for as long as number 77 misses.

Will Luka Doncic play against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday evening? How healthy will number 77 be if does take the floor? Stay tuned for all the latest.
