The Dallas Mavericks had a chance to defend home court and take a commanding 3-1 series lead against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Unfortunately, a late team breakdown caused the Thunder to race back and ultimately win 100-96 on Monday.
During the game, P.J. Washington continued his dominant play on both ends. The rim protection was elite, along with Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II. The Mavs finished with 13 blocks in Game 4.
The Mavericks' role players have been excellent at home, as expected, but the same can't be said for the star players, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
Luka Doncic worrying about officiating too much is causing him to struggle
As seen during this series, Doncic has complained, reacted, or looked over at the refs for a call. It's been tough for fans to watch, along with his poor efficiency. Doncic even seems more focused on trying to draw fouls than just playing the game.
Fans have seen Luka have good moments and highlight plays during this playoff run, but compared to his previous years, this is a down year for him in the playoffs. Doncic needs to get it going if the Mavericks want a real shot at closing out this series.
The free-throw discrepancy favored the Thunder for most of the game, but when the Mavericks started getting their calls, they couldn't make a free throw.
The Mavericks shot an abysmal 52 percent from the line, with a chunk of those coming with under a minute left. Luka Doncic got the foul he'd be asking for the entire game, but missed the biggest free throw of the game, leaving the arena in awe.
The Mavericks travel back to Oklahoma City to play Game 5, looking to get some revenge on the Thunder, who stole Game 4.
Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic will need to show up if the Mavericks want to win this series and make a deeper playoff run. Stay tuned for more updates on the Mavericks.
