The light at the end of the tunnel is almost here.
The never-ending NBA offseason is almost over, and training camp for all teams is just over a month away. Dallas Mavericks fans were blessed with a shorter offseason considering that the team made a run all the way to the NBA Finals, but Mavs fans are already itching to see the new-look roster hit the hardwood.
Dallas made several dazzling moves such as acquiring Klay Thompson through a sign-and-trade and trading for Quentin Grimes, but most of fans' excitement still lies with the team's Slovenian superstar, Luka Doncic.
Doncic is coming off the best season of his career last season, and he is still not at his ceiling. He has the potential to keep getting better, but one main question about Doncic heading into next season could impact the Mavs' season significantly.
Luka Doncic's health is a huge uncertainty heading into 2024-25 season
Tyler Watts of Hoops Habit labeled the biggest question for Doncic next season as "Is Luka Doncic healthy heading into potential MVP season?" and that may be the biggest question about the Mavs going into training camp that'll need to be answered quickly.
Doncic was extremely banged up during the 2024 NBA Playoffs, and his injuries included knee soreness, ankle soreness, and a chest contusion that required him to receive painkilling injections. He was on the injury report for every single playoff game, and having him 100 percent healthy for the start of the season will be crucial for Dallas' success.
Doncic is among the favorites to win MVP once again next season, and him being fully healthy is going to be crucial for him to win this prestigious award for the first time. He has been able to get some rest over the last month or so since Slovenia didn't make the Olympics, and although this was likely crushing for Doncic, it could have been a blessing in disguise for the Mavs.
In the pre-Olympic qualifiers, Doncic was not himself. The same injuries from the playoffs were still bothering him considerably, and it was clear that he needed to get some rest after the long NBA season.
There have been no reports about how healthy Doncic is right now, and him being completely healed from all of the injuries he suffered during the end of the season and playoffs will be huge for the Mavs. Fans quickly forget how dangerous Doncic is when he is fully healthy, and anyone who watched him all year last season knows that his performance in the playoffs was just a small glimpse into the player that he can consistently be.
The Mavs will be leaning on Doncic heavily as they always do next season, and his health is a big uncertainty that will certainly determine Dallas' fate for the early part of the year. The Mavs will be able to hold their own even if Doncic isn't fully healthy, but a fully healthy Doncic would be a nightmare for the rest of the Western Conference.
