How getting LeBron James to Dallas would fix Kyrie Irving's credit around the NBA
By Justin Lee
With the NBA milking the NBA Finals for as long as they can and adding a few days between each game, it feels like there is plenty of time to talk about the newest thing that has the NBA world in a frenzy. Unless you've lived under a rock, you likely know what I'm talking about.
The Dallas Mavericks are a team that now gets looked at as a free-agent destination once again, or at least a place people want to play. When Dorian Finney-Smith got traded, he was upset, as are most players who get traded.
However, when he did his introductory presser with the Brooklyn Nets, he still looked bummed out and sad overall. Most of the time, when players do that with their new team, they at least show some positive emotion.
How getting LeBron James to Dallas would fix Kyrie Irving's credit around the NBA
Dallas is a place players want to play because of the ownership and because of Luka Doncic. We thought they would have a tough time getting Kyrie Irving to stay in Dallas, but that doesn't seem like it will be a problem. The problem is getting LeBron James to Dallas.
According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, Irving has recently asked James if he would be willing to play in Dallas. Obviously, with one year left on his deal, that would require James to be traded, which would be the first time in his illustrious career.
However, it isn't impossible. This is the time of year when everyone is bored with their team if that team isn't in the Finals. So, we hear things like this all the time.
We also heard rumors that James was leaving Miami to return to Cleveland. When he left Cleveland the last time, there were rumors he wanted to play for the Knicks.
Most of the time, these types of things don't happen. However, if Irving could pull off this recruitment, it would completely restore his credit around the league.
Irving is known as a guy who destroys teams and their possibility of creating a championship-level team. Accomplishing this would, I feel, restore his credit and eliminate that narrative.
The narrative now is that no one wants to pair up with him because of all the baggage that comes with it. But if he could get LeBron, it would put all of that to rest.
The Mavericks don't need James, and depending on how the trade would look, it could hurt them in the long run. But I can't say it isn't fun to think about.
