The Dallas Mavericks failed to meet expectations last season as they missed out on the Play-In Tournament and were forced to completely shift their focus this summer.
They set their sights on improvement, making some serious additions in hopes of getting back on track next year. Missing the playoffs again would be an utter failure.
Dallas traded for Grant Williams and Richaun Holmes, drafted Dereck Lively II and Olivier-Maxence Prosper, and signed Seth Curry and Dante Exum in free agency.
But most importantly, they re-signed star point guard Kyrie Irving to a three-year, $126 million contract extension, securing a future with him and Luka Doncic moving forward.
Irving joined the team at the trade deadline this past year, as Dallas made a deal with the Brooklyn Nets to acquire him. However, he was set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer, and the Mavericks were forced to re-sign him - which they did successfully.
And with Irving set to make a massive impact in Dallas next year, he’s getting set to help Doncic push for a championship or, at the very least, a deep playoff run.
However, Irving won’t be heading into the year completely the same way as last season. He’ll be rocking a new look which recently took the internet by storm.
Well, he is for the meantime, anyway.
Mavericks star Kyrie Irving gets fans buzzing with wild new 'Goatee Irving' look
Irving recently posted a video to his Instagram story of his new style of facial hair, as the point guard is now sporting a goatee, dubbing himself “Goatee Irving.”
The hilarious new hairdo made waves all across Twitter, with Mavericks fans and NBA fans giving their opinions on the decision.
Whether or not Irving will don the new look on the court next year is yet to be seen, but for the time being, it gives fans something to talk about.
It’s the middle of August, and NBA news is at a year-long low, so any tiny bit of content is enough to get fans excited. Irving’s new goatee is exactly that.
The Mavericks star is going to be one of the most important pieces of the puzzle next year for a Dallas team looking to make massive improvements. But for now, his goatee is the perfect talking point to keep fans entertained.
