The Dallas Mavericks traded for Kristaps Porzingis back in 2019 in a surprise late January blockbuster. The 2018 All-Star was still recovering from ACL surgery and abruptly came to Dallas in a deal that allowed the Knicks to clear cap space and add two first-round picks. Tim Hardaway Jr., Trey Burke, and Courtney Lee also joined the Mavs in the KP deal.

Things have not gone as planned for the Unicorn since the trade. He missed the entire 2018-2019 season and took some time to settle in after his return. Porzingis looked unstoppable inside the Walt Disney World bubble before a torn meniscus cut his season short. He struggled after returning last year, but there is optimism about his production following a healthy offseason.

Porzingis took a moment to celebrate his former teammate and idol Carmelo Anthony on Instagram on Sept. 12. See the touching post and why fans should circle the matchups between the two on their calendar right now.

It is easy to forget that the two were teammates in New York for KP’s first two seasons in the NBA. Melo was traded in the summer of 2017, just before Porzingis broke out and made his first All-Star appearance. See the Unicorn’s tribute to Melo below.

Anthony is still handing out buckets as he averaged 13.4 points in 24.5 minutes per game last season for the Portland Trail Blazers. It was awesome to see KP giving love to his friend. Mavs fans should check the comments too because plenty of the 26-year-old’s teammates and coaches chimed in.

Fans should be excited to see Kristaps Porzingis and Carmelo Anthony match up against each other this season. The Unicorn is ready for training camp and is likely to come back even better. Anthony joined LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers where fans should expect some added fireworks. KP would love to put on a show against his idol in what should be three must-watch matchups this season. Do not miss it.
