The Dallas Mavericks were busy all free agency long.

They started off strong by re-signing Kyrie Irving and signing Seth Curry on the first night and successfully built a team that looks to be better than the squad last year that missed the playoffs.

Dallas didn't play as well as expected after making the midseason blockbuster trade for Irving, but this year it seems that everyone is locked in on competing for a championship.

Mavericks guard sparks intrigue with comments on potential contract extension

This vibe was apparent at Mavericks Media Day, and guard Josh Green's main goal is to win the NBA Finals in Dallas, despite the fact that he is due for a contract extension and the clock is ticking.

If Dallas wants to extend Green they must do it by October 23.

If they decide not to extend him, Green will become a restricted free agent next summer. Now Dallas has to decide if they want to extend him before the season or make Green prove that he's worth it.

Last month, Green said that he wants to remain in Dallas long term, and it has been reported that the contract extension talks have begun, but Green isn't focussed on that.

When asked about the potential extension at Media Day, Green said, "I'm just letting my agents deal with that," and talked about how he's focused on everything that Dallas needs to accomplish as a team.

Later during his Media Day interview, Green emphasized his already-reported desire to stay in Dallas.

"I know I want to be here," Green said. "I'm gonna work as if I'm gonna be here for a long time. I want to be able to win in Dallas. I want to be in Dallas. So whatever is their decision is their decision."

Green later said that he is trying to stay positive during this process and is being optimistic during this time.

It's unclear which way the Mavs are leaning when it comes to a potential Green extension, and it sounds like he and Olivier-Maxence Prosper could be fighting for the starting spot on the wing.
