J.J. Redick throws shade at Dallas Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson on ESPN’s Detail
By Tyler Watts
The Dallas Mavericks made an improbable run to the Western Conference Finals that was sparked by Jalen Brunson. It is easy to forget the team won two of their first three postseason games without Luka Doncic as he recovered from a calf injury, and Brunson was the catalyst for both wins. The 6’1 guard took his game to another level and earned himself some extra money in free agency.
The Mavs remain confident that they will be able to re-sign JB this summer, but he holds all the cards as an unrestricted free agent. Will the Knicks, Pacers, or Pistons be able to convince him to sign on with them or does he stay in Dallas to share the backcourt with Luka?
J.J. Redick took a look at some tape on Klay Thompson in a recent episode of ESPN's Detail (subscription required) where he took a second to throw a little shade at his former teammate.

While Redick was breaking down the film when he threw in a joke about Brunson’s height. Fans can see the clip here, including JB’s response on Twitter.
Redick finished his playing career with the Dallas Mavericks after a 2021 trade deadline move sent him from New Orleans to the Mavs. The sharpshooter missed the postseason because of injury and retired after the season. He has transitioned into broadcasting and does a fantastic job save for the slight on his former teammate.
Jalen Brunson is one of the top free agents this offseason, and teams will be lining up with ways to acquire the 6’1 guard. It will be costly and push the Dallas Mavericks well over the luxury tax but expect them to step up and give JB a hefty extension this summer. Until then, there will be some nervousness among MFFLs as they await Brunson's decision.
