Jason Kidd reveals intriguing starting lineup for Mavericks' first preseason game
By Noah Weber
Dallas Mavericks training camp has officially started, and Mavs fans are buzzing with excitement from what they saw on day one.
As expected, both rookies Dereck Lively II and Olivier-Maxence Prosper were running with the starting lineup alongside Luka Doncic, Grant Williams, and Kyrie Irving, and Mavs head coach Jason Kidd even talked about lineups for the early preseason after their first training camp practice.
Jason Kidd reveals intriguing starting lineup for Mavericks' first preseason game
Kidd touched on the Mavs' lineups for the early preseason in his appearance on "The Saturday Stein Line with Marc Stein" last weekend, and he doubled down on his original take after practice on September 27.
"We're gonna start with those two rooks playing with the big group (the starters) and then we'll make some adjustments with Josh (Green) getting with that group."
- Jason Kidd
This was expected from Kidd, but his comments from last weekend seemed more like a guess, with the possibility that Josh Green could be starting over Prosper for some of the preseason. After his first presser of the new season, it sounds like Kidd is confident in starting both Prosper and Lively II in the early preseason.
Kidd is starting both rookies to see how they fit next to Williams, Irving, and Doncic, and it is seeming more likely by the day that Lively II is Dallas' starting center for opening night on October 25. Doncic has already bragged about his chemistry with Lively II early on, and it looks like they could be a deadly pick-and-roll duo for years to come.
Once the regular season comes around, the question of Prosper or Green starting is going to be on the minds of every Mavs fan. This will be a battle during training camp and early preseason to keep an eye on, and both players bring different skill sets.
Kidd could change his mind before Dallas' first preseason game, but from what it sounds like, Lively II, Prosper, Irving, Doncic, and Williams will be the starters.
Regardless of whether they are in the starting lineup or not for opening night, both Prosper and Lively II are going to be key pieces of the Mavs' rotation this season. You can likely catch Lively II and Prosper in the Mavs' starting lineup in their first preseason game on October 5 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
