Dallas Mavericks have to consistently win to keep Luka Doncic for his entire career
The Mavs cannot just build a title contender this summer and stop working at it. Dallas needs to find the right pieces around Luka and continue to tinker to maximize their roster at every possible turn. It is the burden of having a young superstar. Look at the Bucks with Giannis Antetokounmpo. They keep adding pieces on the edges to improve their roster and increase their chances at a title.
The Mavericks did not always maximize their roster around Dirk Nowitzki, but they consistently had a winning team around him as they qualified for the playoffs 15 times in 16 years. Dallas should strive to be slightly better in the Luka Doncic era. Give number 77 a chance to win the championship every year for the next decade-plus, but that starts with overhauling their roster this summer.
Nobody in Dallas is happy with the team’s performance this season. From owner Mark Cuban to GM Nico Harrison to the 15th man on the roster, they all know the team must play better moving forward and changes have to be made. Can the Mavericks pull the right strings this summer?
Things are not perfect right now, but Luka Doncic seems to genuinely enjoy Dallas. He wants to win with the Mavericks, but the team needs to build the roster around him to make that a reality. Can they do it? Stay tuned to find out.
