Grading 10 Dallas Mavericks trade deadline targets from no-brainer to must-avoid
By Noah Weber
7. Must-avoid: Bruce Brown
Toronto Raptors guard Bruce Brown is someone who the Dallas Mavericks showed interest in during free agency, but trading for him right now might not be the best idea for either side involved.
Dallas has been a team that has been linked to Brown in trade rumors this season, but Toronto's high asking price is the main reason that the Mavs should stay away. This season for the Raptors and Indiana Pacers, Brown is averaging 11.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 46.9 percent from the field and 33.1 percent from three.
He is having a solid season and it would be nice to add an elite perimeter defender to this squad, but as mentioned earlier, Toronto is asking so much for him and he is a bit undersized. The Mavs don't need another guard who is 6-foot-4 or shorter. They need to trade for someone with size, and that's something that Brown lacks.
He has the ability to guard multiple positions and plays bigger than his height, but this move wouldn't move the needle much for this team. Dallas could also have to cough up their 2027 first-round pick in a move for Brown, and he is not worth that unless Dallas is landing another rotation player as part of the trade.
