2. Cameron Payne

The Dallas Mavericks still need a backup point guard.

This has been a glaring hole since the offseason, and rather than signing a true, reliable backup point guard, Dallas signed Seth Curry. The Mavs ended up trading Curry to the Charlotte Hornets at the trade deadline, ending his third stint with Dallas. This signing didn't make sense when it happened, as the Mavs already had Tim Hardaway Jr. and Jaden Hardy, and Curry ended up having an ineffective short tenure with the Mavs.

The Mavs did sign Dante Exum over the offseason, but his health has been a major issue. He's been great when healthy, but the Mavs need someone who can play big minutes, lead the second unit, and defend some. This was supposed to be Exum's job, but it may be time to look elsewhere.

One player they can consider is Cameron Payne of the Philadelphia 76ers.

This season, Payne is averaging 6.7 points, 1.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 0.5 steals per game while shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from downtown. He has been a great backup point guard in the league for some time now and can facilitate and defend.

He wouldn't be the best fit to play minutes with both Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving since he is undersized, but he would be able to hold his own with the second unit.
