Dallas Mavericks fans must realize they're walking into heaven right now
The fans of the Dallas Mavericks have a lot to be thankful for.
After seeing a full season with two superstars in full swing, a midseason change, and an NBA Finals appearance, the future is bright for the Dallas Mavericks.
Fans have a lot to be thankful for, but they also need to appreciate what they have, because it doesn't come often.
Dallas fans need to understand this is rare territory for an NBA franchise
Drafting Luka Doncic was the start of a magic for years to come, hence the name, "Luka Magic."
Then the road would continue with Kristaps Porzingis which in the long run, was a failure. Jalen Brunson proved not to be a failure and now is having some of his best years in his current stint with the New York Knicks.
Then, perhaps the best midseason trade in Mavs history happened with Kyrie Irving landing with Dallas. This was a project that some members of the media didn't quite believe in.
From a mediocre start to the season, the Mavericks cleaned up house with a huge midseason get with Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington. Guys like Washington have added to the toughness culture of Dallas by standing up for his guys. These guys have clearly bought into the team, and it doesn't matter what their numbers are, they're in for one goal.
Then came an NBA Finals appearance for the third time in franchise history. The Mavericks looked like a team that was new to the scene, while the Boston Celtics looked hungry for a long time.
Now, the Mavericks have been there. They arguably had the most aggressive offseason signing in team history.
Fans only feel some type of way when they know something special is happening. This is how fans felt for much of the early and mid-2000s. Dirk Nowitzki and his team made fans feel confident when watching their team take the court. Then in the 2011 season, it all came together after so long, and fans have never been happier to see their team finally get it done with Nowitzki leading the charge.
That's the same way today, it's not often people have that confident reassurance.
That reassurance involves one of the greatest shooters this game has ever seen, Klay Thompson.
The way Doncic passes the ball, it's possible his assist average could be at its core peak next season now that Thompson is on the squad. That would also mean taking some scoring pressure off of him.
Dallas will be competing for the top of the conference next season, and fans only get those butterflies in the air whenever they know their team has a legitimate chance to win the NBA championship.
Soak it in, remember where you are, and continue to enjoy the ride.
