1 Decision Jason Kidd must make that could make or break Mavericks' season
By Noah Weber
The Dallas Mavericks enter tonight's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers with a 33-24 record. Dallas is sitting at the eighth seed in the Western Conference after Sunday's loss to the Indiana Pacers, and they have a chance to rebound tonight against the No. 2-seeded Cavs.
In Sunday's loss to the Pacers, Dallas was within striking distance in the fourth quarter due to some heroics by Kyrie Irving but ended up losing by over 20 points.
Many Mavs fans pointed their finger at Tim Hardaway Jr. after the game, as he was taking bad shots, turning the ball over, and causing the offense not to flow. This is nothing new for Hardaway Jr., as he consistently takes bad shots, but this game he was missing them and continued to shoot them.
1 Decision Jason Kidd must make that could make or break Mavericks' season
Hardaway Jr. keeps shooting regardless of how many he has missed before, and although he embodies a shooter's mindset, Jason Kidd has a tough decision to make down the stretch.
Will Hardaway Jr. remain a focal point of this team or will he allow Jaden Hardy to alleviate some of his role?
Hardaway Jr. remains one of Dallas' best scorers and shooters, but his inability to playmake and his typical doing of forcing bad shots is not ideal, especially with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving off the floor. He can't get anything going when not on the floor with one of Dallas' stars, and Kidd could combat this issue by playing Hardy more.
Hardy has been playing some of the best basketball of his career as of late, and Kidd deciding to play him could give this team a new dimension. He can create, knock down threes, attack the bucket, and score in isolation.
Hardy can do many of the things that Hardaway Jr. can do, and some things better, but it doesn't seem that Hardy will take any of his minutes just yet. This isn't an awful thing, as Hardaway Jr. has been great off the bench for Dallas this season and has had several massive games, but him getting out of this shooting slump could make or break the Mavs' season. Hardaway Jr.'s shooting is massive for this team when he is hitting his shots, but when he's off and continues to let it fly, it can hurt the team.
Kidd playing Hardy more is a decision that could help the Mavs tremendously, and only time will tell if Hardaway Jr. can return to his old self.
For all the latest on Tim Hardaway Jr., Jaden Hardy, and the Dallas Mavericks this season, stay tuned.
