Heading into the Dallas Mavericks' game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night, the team had won four games in a row and was coming off a gutsy home victory over the Golden State Warriors.

Dallas shot horribly from downtown in this game, but they found a way to win.

Although the Mavs winning four games was a big storyline heading into this game, a bigger storyline was Daniel Gafford's chase of Wilt Chamberlain's record of most consecutive field goals without a miss.

Chamberlain made 35 consecutive field goals without a miss, and heading into the game against the Thunder, Gafford had made 33 consecutive field goals without a miss.

After Dallas' win over the Warriors, Gafford says he tries not to think about the record when he's playing, and after Thursday night, he doesn't have to think about it at all.

Gafford missed a shot just over 30 seconds into the game, causing his chase after Chamberlain's record to end with 33 makes. Even though he didn't break the record, Gafford will be a part of NBA history forever as he was inches away from breaking one of the NBA's most unbreakable records.

We may never see a player get even close to what Gafford just accomplished, and it's remarkable that he even made it this far.

Gafford has been excellent so far for the Mavs, as he is averaging 10.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 0.7 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game as a Maverick. He brings much-needed energy to this squad on a nightly basis and has provided a huge boost defensively.

Dallas and Gafford's next chance to grab a win is on Sunday afternoon against the Denver Nuggets at home. With the Western Conference race being so close, a win on Sunday would be massive.
