Free agent Dallas Mavericks should target in 2023: 1. Naz Reid

Reid has been stuck behind Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert during his time in Minnesota, which has limited his minutes and production. Fans have seen flashes of his potential, and Reid has shined when given a larger opportunity. He is an unrestricted free agent this summer, and fans can expect him to be searching for a starting center gig on the open market.

The Mavs’ biggest hole is at the five. They signed JaVale McGee to start last offseason, but the seven-footer never clicked in Dallas. The Mavericks are back to starting Dwight Powell, and their rebounding and rim protection issues remain. They will be looking to upgrade at center this summer, and Naz Reid may be the best available option.

Per 36 minutes for his career, Reid averages 20.3 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.9 blocks per game. Those are massive numbers, and the 6’9 big man is unafraid to stretch the floor and shoot from the perimeter. He is a career 34.2 percent 3-point shooter, which is slightly below league average, but still respectable.

Naz Reid would be a fantastic fit in Dallas, but would he be willing to accept the taxpayer mid-level exception to join a contender as their starting center? Reid would instantly improve the Mavericks’ defense and solve their rebounding issues as he finally gets the opportunity to play extended minutes.
