Buyout candidate Dallas Mavericks should target: 1. Danny Green

***UPDATE: Green has agreed to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers after his buyout

The Mavs have tried to land Danny Green for years. The 6’6 wing nearly chose Dallas over the Lakers in 2019 just before he won his third NBA championship. Green was part of the 2020 title team that featured Jason Kidd as an assistant coach.

Fans know Kidd likes to bring role players and coaches from that team to Dallas, including JaVale McGee, Jared Dudley, and Greg St. Jean. Green was a starter and key floor spacer for those Lakers, and the 35-year-old would bring a ton of playoff and championship experience to the Mavericks.

Green is working way back from a torn ACL. He did play three games for the Grizzlies before Memphis traded him to Houston at the deadline for Luke Kennard in a three-team swap. The 14-year veteran has no desire to play for the rebuilding Rockets, so expect him to get bought out and sign with a contender in the coming weeks.

The Mavericks will have to win a bidding war for Green’s services because every contender would love to add a 3-and-D wing with championship experience. Danny Green’s relationship with Jason Kidd and his desire to play with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving could be deciding factors in whether he comes to Dallas.
