Buyout candidate Dallas Mavericks should target: 2. Reggie Jackson

***UPDATE: Jackson has agreed to sign with the Nuggets after his buyout

Mavericks fans have not forgotten Jackson going off on them in the first round of the playoffs in 2021. The Clippers do not win that series without the 6’2 guard. He played his way into the starting lineup as he averaged 15.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 3.1 3-pointers made per game over the seven-game series.

Jackson is only 32 years old, and he was still productive for the Clippers this season. He averaged 10.9 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.2 rebounds in 25.7 minutes per game.

LA traded Jackson to the Hornets at the deadline for Mason Plumlee. The Clippers wanted another big man, and it was Jackson’s contract that worked for matching purposes. The Hornets are rebuilding, so buying out Jackson, who is making $11.2 million this season, makes sense.

The veteran guard is comfortable playing on or off the ball, which improves his fit in Dallas. He could play next to Luka Doncic or Kyrie Irving as Dallas adds an experienced playmaker for the postseason. Josh Green and Jaden Hardy are playing well, but what happens if they struggle in the playoffs? Having a veteran to turn to could be massive when the games matter most.

Expect Reggie Jackson to be high on the Dallas Mavericks' list of buyout targets, but one name figures to lead the list for several reasons.
