Buyout candidate Dallas Mavericks should target: 3. Will Barton

The Wizards traded for Will Barton in the offseason, but the 32-year-old wing just never truly found his footing in Washington. He is averaging just 7.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 19.6 minutes per game coming off the bench this season, and Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Barton is getting bought out by the Wizards.

Barton was a starter for the Nuggets last season where he averaged 14.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in 32.1 minutes per game. Denver lost to the eventual champion Warriors in the first round of the playoffs, but the 6’6 wing put up 13.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists each night in that series.

The Mavericks brought the best out of Spencer Dinwiddie after he was acquired from the Wizards at last season’s trade deadline, but could they do the same with Barton? He is the 3-and-D wing that the team is searching for. Barton could fill that Dorian Finney-Smith role where he knocks down shots and defends on the perimeter. Doe-Doe is a superior player, but Barton would finish the season playing for the minimum salary in Dallas.

Every contending team is looking for a 3-and-D wing, so expect plenty of interest in Will Barton. Can the Dallas Mavericks win the race to secure his services for the remainder of the season? He will have a decision to make, and Dallas figures to rank high on the list of suitors, so stay tuned to see where Barton lands.
