Will the Dallas Mavericks trade for Vasilije Micic?
Micic surely wants more than the minimum salary to jump to the NBA. He is making triple that in Europe next season and is the best player in the league. The 6’5 guard wants the challenge of playing in the NBA, but taking a steep pay cut is likely not part of the plan.
That all but eliminates the Dallas Mavericks from the running for Vasilije Micic. They would love to add the EuroLeague MVP, but doing so would be costly with no assurance that they can keep him beyond the first season.
Will Micic get his chance in the NBA next season? It is not looking likely. Teams have expressed interest in the 28-year-old, but the Thunder will want a first-round pick. Is a contending team willing to pay that? That team would need to have at least part of an exception to sign him for more than the minimum to a three-year deal.
Vasilije Micic is an exciting player that will become a fan favorite for whatever team acquires him. His passing and playmaking chops are elite, but there are defensive questions about the 6’5 guard. Scouts knock his athleticism, but Mavericks fans will remember that they said the same things about Luka Doncic when he came over from Europe.
Expect Micic to shine wherever he lands, but the Dallas Mavericks will not be the team that acquires him.
