The Dallas Mavericks jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they picked up a 130-111 win over the Phoenix Suns on Monday night. Superstar Luka Doncic led the way as the Mavs topped Phoenix for the first time since 2019 in a regular season contest.

The Suns were shorthanded and on the second night of a back-to-back on Dec. 5. Chris Paul, Cameron Johnson, and Torrey Craig were all out with injuries, and Devin Booker had a bad shooting night as Phoenix was blown out in Dallas.

Tim Hardaway Jr. stayed hot as the Mavericks rolled to their 12th victory of the season. What can fans take away from the home win infront of a star-studded crowd that featured Dirk Nowitzki, Dez Bryant, Odell Beckham Jr., and more? Here are the three biggest takeaways.

Takeaway from Dallas Mavericks win over Suns: 3. Defense

The Mavs were playing well on the offensive end of the floor, but their defense helped them build an insurmountable lead. Phoenix had the second-best offensive rating in the NBA coming into Tuesday’s game, but they scored just 15 first-quarter points and only 41 in the first half. Dallas was locked in on the defensive end, and they shut down Devin Booker in the win.

The Mavs were flying around the floor on Tuesday night in arguably their most impressive win of the season. They blew out the Grizzlies in the second game of the season, and this contest was also never in doubt. Dallas dominated to pick up their second straight blowout victory.

The Suns three best players scored just 44 points on Tuesday night. They could not get going, which lead to a decisive Mavericks victory.
