Takeaway from Dallas Mavericks win over Nets: 1. Luka makes more history

Luka Doncic continued his historic run to begin the 2022-23 season with his ninth straight 30-point game. It is officially the second-longest streak in NBA history behind just Wilt Chamberlain’s 23 straight to open the 1962-1963 campaign. Luka wasted little time finishing off the mark as he had 14 in the first quarter and nailed this 3-pointer with plenty of time remaining to give him 30-plus again.

There is no stopping Luka right now. He finally found his jumper on Monday night as he made five of his nine 3-point attempts. Doncic was shooting just 26.2 percent from distance coming into the contest, but his performance against the Nets could be the start of the turnaround.

Luka finished with 36 points, six rebounds, six assists, three steals, and one block on Nov. 7.  He was 11 of 22 from the field and nine of 12 on his free throws in 38 minutes of action. Doncic did have five of the team’s uncharacteristic 22 turnovers, but his scoring was again key as the Mavs moved to 6-3 on the season.

This is a historic start to what is likely to be an all-time great season from number 77. How many times can he go for 30-plus this year? Will he lead the league in scoring? Can any team stop him? For Luka, anything is possible.
