The Dallas Mavericks have upgraded their frontcourt this offseason by trading for Christian Wood and signing JaVale McGee. They struggled to rebound and protect the rim in the postseason, so the the front office focused on filling those holes. Wood could be the key to the Mavs making a second straight deep playoff run as he must answer questions about how his game translates to a contending team.

Rumors suggested that the Mavs wanted to add a 3-and-D wing with their mid-level exception. Instead, the front office signed McGee and used a piece of it to give rookie Jaden Hardy a three-year deal, but they could still be in the market for a veteran sharpshooter.

Phoenix radio host John Gambadoro mentioned the Mavericks among the teams with interest in Utah Jazz forward Bojan Bogdanovic. The Jazz traded Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert this offseason, and they are headed into a total rebuild. Bogdanovic is certain on the market, but which team will acquire him?

Rumors: Dallas Mavericks interested in trading for Bojan Bogdanovic

Gambadoro mentioned the Mavericks with the Suns, Lakers, and Knicks as teams looking at the veteran forward. Bogdanovic was arguably Utah’s best player in their first-round playoff series against the Mavs last season. He averaged 18.0 points per game and played above-average defense on Luka Doncic and Jalen Brunson.

Every contending team should be in on Bogdanovic. He is a 3-and-D wing that is capable of scoring 18 points every night on a playoff team. The 6’7 forward can guard multiple positions and be a force on both ends of the floor.

Will the Mavericks acquire him? It will cost them a first-round pick. Is Dallas willing to give one up when they could regain control of all their first-round selections next summer? The Mavs have to weigh Bogdanovic’s short-term impact versus the long-term ramifications of acquiring a second star. Does Bogi push them into title contention? If not, the Mavs are better off waiting for the deal that does.

Fans should not be surprised the Dallas Mavericks are interested in veterans. They want to build a title contender around superstar Luka Doncic, and they need additional help to make that a reality. Expect to see the Mavs brought up for every available role player this season, and stay tuned to see if the front office swings a deal for one before the trade deadline.
