Dallas Mavericks that must perform better in December: 1. Dorian Finney-Smith

It has been a slow start for Finney-Smith. The 6’7 wing showed plenty of improvements last season, and he deserved consideration for the All-Defensive team. Doe-Doe locked down Donovan Mitchell in the first round of the playoffs and many were predicting another step forward from him this season.

So far, Finney-Smith is playing significant minutes, but the production has not been there. He is averaging 8.7 points on 40.4 percent shooting from the field and 32.8 percent on his threes with 4.2 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. Those are his lowest numbers in all five categories since the 2018-2019 season.

Finney-Smith is getting tons of open 3-pointers, but the veteran has failed to connect so far. After shooting 39.5 percent for two straight seasons, fans can bet he will bounce back soon enough. The Mavs need him knocking down shots and playing stout defense if they want to make it four straight playoff appearances.

Turning things around won’t be easy as the Dallas Mavericks play 17 games in December, including ten on the road. They have struggled away from the American Airlines Center this season, and their next four games are all against playoff teams from last season.

How will Dallas respond to the difficult slate? They need Dorian Finney-Smith, Reggie Bullock, and Maxi Kleber to perform better to be able to defeat any team in the league. Stay tuned to see if those three players bounce back.
