The Dallas Mavericks are still searching the trade market to improve their roster. They need another playmaker after the departure of Jalen Brunson in free agency, and the Mavs would love to add another 3-and-D wing to put around Luka Doncic. General manager Nico Harrison has not found the right move yet, but he continues to make calls.

The Mavericks explored the trade market for Tim Hardaway Jr. both at last season’s trade deadline and again this offseason. The 6’5 wing is coming off season-ending foot surgery, and THJ struggled last season before the injury, so his value is down. Dallas did not find a suitable deal, but they would jump at the chance if one presented itself.

Should the Dallas Mavericks pass or pursue hypothetical Tim Hardaway Jr. trades?

THJ is a known commodity at this point in his career. He is a plus 3-point shooter and floor spacer that scores 15 points per game and has a high basketball IQ. Hardaway Jr. has three years and $53.7 million left on his contract, but it is a declining scale. He is a strong sixth man that was the Mavericks' second-leading scorer in the 2021 playoffs against the LA Clippers.

Should Dallas explore these hypothetical Tim Hardaway Jr. trades? Remember, the Mavs want to stay in contention with a small eye toward improving their financial flexibility moving forward. Here is a closer look at the deals and an examination of what the Mavericks should do.
