Do the Dallas Mavericks need a second star to pair with Luka Doncic to win a title?
By Tyler Watts
The Dallas Mavericks want to build a championship team around superstar Luka Doncic. That is no secret, and they already have acquired the most difficult piece. Doncic can be the best player on a title-winning team, but the Mavs need the roster around him to bring the championship back to Dallas.
They were in this position for nearly two decades with Dirk Nowitzki, so owner Mark Cuban and the Mavericks are no strangers to how it works. They have options, but Dallas won a championship and made two NBA Finals appearances with Dirk. They know how to build a winner, but can they make it happen with Doncic in the starring role?
Owner Mark Cuban made his feeling clear on what the Mavericks need to build a title contender around Doncic in a recent Bleacher Report interview with Taylor Rooks. Here is a closer look at what the boss had to say before examining if the Mavs need a second star.
Do the Dallas Mavericks need a second star to pair with Luka Doncic to win a title?
Rooks asked the Mavs owner if the team needed a second star player next to Doncic for Dallas to win it all, and fans can read Cuban's quote below.
"When we lost in the conference finals, I don’t think it was for a lack of talent. The Warriors deserve a lot of credit because they had played together so long that their execution was phenomenal."
Cuban continued about the crispness of the Dubs' play, and referred to it as not “as much talent as it was corporate knowledge”. The billionaire followed that up by saying this.
"So I think for us, it’s not so much we need that second star or whatever. It’s more, let’s just get some time and experience in crunch time situations in the playoffs and that will pay off."
