Free-agent the Dallas Mavericks should sign after day 1: 1. Otto Porter Jr.

***UPDATE- Porter Jr. agreed to a two-year deal with the Raptors, according to Chris Haynes.

Porter Jr. is exactly the type of player the Mavs need. The 6’8 forward provides length, defensive versatility, and floor spacing. He was impactful in the playoffs as he helped the Warriors win the championship. Porter Jr. averaged 8.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 22.2 minutes per game last season, and he is a career 39.8 percent 3-point shooter.

Golden State is interested in bringing him back, but Porter Jr. wants to get paid. The Mavericks would need to make a trade to offer him a significant contract, and he would have to choose Dallas over multiple suitors.

Every team wants 6’8 players that can space the floor and defend. Injuries have limited the minutes and production of Porter Jr. in recent years, but that won’t stop him from finding a key role on a contending team. The 29-year-old just proved he can help a team win a championship, so expect his list of suitors to be long.

The Dallas Mavericks are not done making moves. They are still looking to add another wing and get some help in the backcourt. Do not be surprised to see president of basketball operations and general manager Nico Harrison swing another trade on top of it all, so fans should stay tuned for the latest.
