Free-agent the Dallas Mavericks should sign after day 1: 2. T.J. Warren
***UPDATE: Warren agreed to join the Brooklyn Nets on July 5, per Shams Charania.
Warren is a bit of a forgotten man after playing just four games in the last two seasons combined because of foot injuries. Fans may not remember that he averaged 19.8 points on 53.6 percent shooting from the field and over 40 percent on his threes during the 2019-2020 season where he helped the Pacers reach the playoffs.
Is Warren healthy enough to play? What should fans expect him to produce? Adrian Wojnarowski reported that he was fully healthy back in March, but the 6’8 forward is trying to return from back-to-back stress fractures in his foot. There is no guarantee that he will be able to play significant games or minutes next season.
The Mavericks have one of the best players in the league, and they should be searching for players that can raise their ceiling. If Luka Doncic is healthy, Dallas will be in the playoffs. They need players that can help them win when it matters most. Taking a flier on T.J. Warren could be a home run or a strike out, but he certainly raises the Mavericks ceiling.
There were not a ton of Warren rumors on the opening night of free agency, so it will be interesting to see where he lands for next season.
