Resetting Dallas Mavericks depth chart after Christian Wood trade

After trading four players and a first-round pick for Christian Wood, the Mavs have 11 players under contract for the 2022-2023 season. They will be looking to re-sign Jalen Brunson and Theo Pinson this offseason to bring it up to 13.

The Mavericks also have the taxpayer mid-level exception to add another rotation piece, and more trades could be on the horizon. Dallas wants to win now, so they will improve their roster however possible.

Here is a look at the team’s depth chart with the 11 players currently under contract.

PG: Luka Doncic, Spencer Dinwiddie

SG: Tim Hardaway Jr., Frank Ntilikina

SF: Reggie Bullock, Josh Green

PF: Dorian Finney-Smith, Maxi Kleber, Davis Bertans

C: Christian Wood, Dwight Powell

If they re-sign Jalen Brunson, he would start at the two and push Tim Hardaway Jr. into the sixth man role. Trading for Wood and bringing back JB gives Dallas eight trusted rotation options in the postseason, and the Mavericks are hoping to add a ninth with their mid-level exception.

The addition of Wood coupled with a healthy Tim Hardaway Jr. gives the Dallas Mavericks a more talented roster than the one that just reached the Western Conference Finals, and there are still more moves to make. The best is yet to come from Luka Doncic and the Mavs, and fans should be even more excited after the Christian Wood trade.
