Does it matter if Christian Wood starts for the Dallas Mavericks?

It does not matter if Christian Wood starts or comes off the bench for the Mavs. He is still in line for 30-plus minutes each game and will have a place in the closing lineup.

The 6’10 forward could easily be in the running for Sixth Man of the Year if he comes off the bench. He will be one of the team’s top three scoring options no matter who else is on the floor, and Wood should be able to put up massive numbers against the opposition’s second unit.

Do not be surprised to see Wood do something similar to Reggie Bullock from last season. The Mavericks wing started the year coming off the bench, and it was not until February when he entered the starting five full-time, but he started every game in the postseason.

Head coach Jason Kidd will not be married to his lineup or rotation. He is going to experiment and try things during the regular season. Some of them will work and some won’t, but it will be important information the Hall of Famer will use in the playoffs as he tries to help the Mavericks make another deep postseason run.

It does not matter if Christian Wood starts or comes off the bench. He will get plenty of playing time, and be a force for the Dallas Mavericks. Can coach Kidd help him improve his defense to reach another level? If so, the the rest of the league will dread playing the Mavs next season.
