Will the Dallas Mavericks capitalize on the Golden State Warriors' upcoming cap crunch?

The Mavs benefit from the Warriors' situation either way. Owner Joe Lacob has made it clear that Golden State cannot pay all four players, so they will have to let someone go. Both teams are trying to win the NBA championship, which means one team losing puts the other in a stronger relative position.

Dallas would love to acquire any of the four players from the Warriors. Their most likely acquisition is Draymond Green followed by Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and then Jordan Poole. The Mavericks will not have the cap space to offer Pool a massive deal in free agency next summer. They could do a sign-and-trade, but Green would be a more likely target for that move.

The Warriors' position is a fascinating one to watch. They have been so good for so long that they cannot afford to pay their own players now. It is just incredible, and what they decide to do will have ripple effects across the league. It is hard to imagine Draymond or Klay playing for another team, but that could be the reality in a few years.
