Dallas Mavericks best lineups for closing games: 2. Add size

Teams looking to close with two traditional big men will see the Mavs adjust to this lineup.

PG: Luka Doncic

SG: Tim Hardaway Jr.

SF: Dorian Finney-Smith

PF: Maxi Kleber

C: Kristaps Porzingis

Porzingis and Kleber give the Mavs two traditional bigs but makes the unit a little light on rebounding. They should be able to match up against two big men like Zion Williamson and Jonas Valanciunas on the division rival New Orleans Pelicans. Kleber can defend on the perimeter and protect the rim making him the team’s best option against Zion.

Hardaway Jr. gets the nod over Bullock because of his shot creation. The Mavs free-agent acquisition could play over Finney-Smith here if Dallas is looking for that mix.

This unit allows the Mavericks to increase their size but not lose anything on the offensive end. KP can be Luka’s primary pick and roll partner with three floor spacers around their star duo. It is a strong mix that should allow Dallas to play well on both ends of the floor as they finish out tight games. Porzingis’ defense at the rim will be the key to this unit’s success in the 2021-2022 season.
