Dallas Mavericks best lineups for closing games: 4. Two PG’s
The Mavs are reliant on Luka to do the majority of the offensive creation and playmaking. To diverse things late in games, coach Jason Kidd could opt for a two point guard look.
PG: Luka Doncic
SG: Jalen Brunson
SF: Tim Hardaway Jr.
PF: Dorian Finney-Smith
C: Kristaps Porzingis
Brunson is a steady hand late in games that is no stranger to winning. He played in 19 of the Mavericks 33 clutch contests last season and led Villanova to two NCAA championships in three seasons. His ability to create shots could be massive late in close games.
Coach Kidd has options for the remaining spots around Luka and KP. Tim Hardaway Jr. offers more ball-handling and shot creation than Reggie Bullock, but Kidd might prefer the latter’s defense. Finney-Smith, Maxi Kleber, Dwight Powell, and Willie Cauley-Stein are all options for the final spot, but Doe-Doe gives the Mavs the best mix of shooting and defense.
This lineup could be used against teams that dial up the double and triple teams on Doncic. Dallas will need secondary creators on the floor to relieve the pressure and get things rolling. Kidd may also opt for it if the Mavericks are looking to make a comeback.
