The Dallas Mavericks want to upgrade their roster this offseason around superstar Luka Doncic after their run to the Western Conference Finals, but it will not be easy. They are projected to be over the luxury tax line before re-signing free-agent guard Jalen Brunson, which means they are limited to the taxpayer mid-level exception and minimum deals in free agency.

The Mavs path to significant upgrades is the trade market. They will be searching for a second star and to plug some holes in their rotation. Dallas wants to land another All-Star to pair with Luka, but doing so is easier said than done.

The Mavericks can still improve their roster in free agency, but they will have to shop in the bargain bin. Their lack of wing depth was on display in the playoffs, but could Dallas sign a free agent that becomes a trusted piece of head coach Jason Kidd’s postseason rotation?

Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock each played over 38 minutes per game in the postseason because of the Mavs lack of wing depth. Josh Green and Frank Ntilikina got opportunities, but neither could be trusted for significant minutes because of their lack of offensive game.

Tim Hardaway Jr. was out with a foot injury, but there has been plenty of trade chatter about the 6’5 wing. If THJ is dealt, Dallas must improve their wing depth heading into next season.

Here are five free agents that are projected to sign below the taxpayer mid-level that the Dallas Mavericks should target.
