Player on Dallas Mavericks roster bubble: 2. Tyrell Terry

Terry was the Mavs second-round pick in 2020, but the 21-year-old played just 56 total minutes as a rookie. He missed time dealing with a personal issue as he struggled to crack the rotation. Terry was hurt by the pandemic as the G League season was condensed and his opportunities to play minutes were limited.

The 6’2 guard was set to be the Mavericks star player in the Las Vegas Summer League, but he was hurt after just two games and missed the remainder of the event. It has been a rough first year in the NBA, but Terry is looking to prove his doubters wrong in year two.

Tyrell Terry needs to stand out during training camp, or he could be the odd man out. The 21-year-old was an elite shooter at Stanford, but he has yet to showcase that skill at the professional level. Terry is all potential at this point in his career. The Dallas Mavericks want to win now, so how long are they going to be willing to wait on a talented player that is not ready to contribute?

Terry has two guaranteed seasons left on his contract, so the Mavs would have to eat his $1.8 million salary for the 2022-2023 campaign too if they cut him now. Will that be enough to keep the 6’2 guard on the roster?
