Dallas Mavericks: 5 biggest takeaways from 2021 media day
By Tyler Watts
Biggest takeaway from Dallas Mavericks media day: 1. Who starts at the five?
Jason Kidd had this to say when asked about what position he views Kristaps Porzingis playing this season.
"I think I’ve always looked at everyone as a basketball player. As we go along this journey, I don’t look at guys as fours or fives. You put your best out there and kind of use them in different situations, but I think when you look at KP, he can play both four and five. There will be times when he is out there as the five, but I think starting off the season, he will probably start off at the four."
Fans know the Mavericks added Reggie Bullock this summer, who has been a starter for the last four seasons. With Dorian Finney-Smith and Tim Hardaway Jr. returning on the wings, there was some speculation that the Mavs might start KP at the five, but that does not appear to be the case. It will be a hotly contested battle during training camp to see who opens the game on the wing.
The battle for the center starting center spot will be just as fiery. Maxi Kleber, Dwight Powell, Willie Cauley-Stein, Boban Marjanovic, and Moses Brown all figure to have the opportunity to grab the starting role during training camp. Kidd’s decision will dictate the Mavs offense and defense in some ways, so expect plenty of consideration on the pairing with Porzingis in the frontcourt.
Media day 2021 offered Dallas Mavericks fans plenty of information on the team. It is going to be a wild and exciting season, so buckle up for all the fun, and do not forget to check back to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest.
