Christian Wood pops up on Mavericks injury report with an illness
By Tyler Watts
The Dallas Mavericks face the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night at the American Airlines Center in what many penciled in as a win before the season, but it won’t be easy. Utah is out to a 6-2 start, and they currently sit third in the Western Conference. The Jazz have talented veterans on their roster that are playing hard. Do not expect anything to come easy on Nov. 2.
Christian Wood popped up on the injury ahead of the game with an illness. He is currently listed as questionable, which means the 6’10 big man is about 50-50 to face the Jazz on Wednesday night.
Utah has plenty of depth and a powerful bench, so Wood sitting out would be a massive loss, but the Mavericks would be able to adjust. Here is a look at what they could do if C-Wood needs to miss the game, and how it could impact the outcome.
Christian Wood pops up on injury report with an illness: Questionable to face Jazz
Wood is averaging 16.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks in 25.8 minutes per over his first six games with the Mavericks. He is still trying to earn the coaching staff's trust, but there have been some impressive returns in the early going. They do not have another big man like Wood. Tim Hardaway Jr. and Spencer Dinwiddie would have to replace his scoring, but who gets his minutes?
The Mavs have been working Dwight Powell back into the rotation after he sat out for the first three games. Expect DP to earn some run with Maxi Kleber and JaVale McGee each getting a few more minutes. It would change the way Dallas plays a bit, but the Mavericks have depth at the five.
Will Christian Wood miss Wednesday’s game against the Utah Jazz at the AAC? Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
