The Dallas Mavericks have reached another level this season under first-year head coach Jason Kidd. He has improved the team’s chemistry and has them sitting at third in the Western Conference with five games left in the regular season. No team wants to face Luka Doncic and the Mavs in the playoffs after the way they have played down the stretch.

The entire roster has talked about the improved chemistry under coach Kidd. He has opened the communication and encouraged players to expand their games. Jalen Brunson, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Dorian Finney-Smith are all playing the best basketball of their careers in his system.

The NBA announced the 12 finalists for the Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year award on March 30, and Mavericks big man Boban Marjanovic was nominated. Players will vote for the winner, and here is a look at why Bobi should take home the honors.

Why Boban Marjanovic should win the 2022 Teammate of the Year award

The Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year award honors “the player deemed the best teammate based on selfless play, on & off court leadership as a mentor & role model to other NBA players, & commitment & dedication to team”, according to the league. What player better exemplifies that than Marjanovic?

Everyone in the NBA loves Boban (subscription required). He brightens up the room and can make everyone smile. Marjanovic is certainly a leader and mentor. The 7’3 big man is one of the hardest workers on the team, despite playing just 108 minutes this season. He wants the Mavs to win and helps them improve every day, even when he does not play a second.

Boban would be the second Maverick to win the award since its introduction in 2013. Mavericks GOAT Dirk Nowitzki took home the honors in 2017.

It will be interesting to see who wins the Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year award in 2022. Shane Battier is the only player to take home the award that was not an All-Star at some point in his career. Will Boban Marjanovic be the second?
