2023 NBA Mock Draft: Mavericks dream draft choice falls, Rockets shock at 4

8. Washington Wizards select Jarace Walker
The Wizards hired Michael Winger to take over their front office, and it creates plenty of questions about their future. Washington has attempted to contend, but they have reached the playoffs just once in the last five years. Does Winger blow it up and attempt a full-scale rebuild in the nation’s capital?
Rebuilding allows the Wizards to go in any direction with this selection. The hardest asset to acquire behind superstar talent is a versatile wing. That should be atop Washington’s wish list if they decide to tear down their roster, which makes Jarace Walker the perfect fit.
The 6’7 wing has a 7’2 wingspan. He can legitimately guard every player on the court and is already arguably the most polished defender in this class. Walker should make a defensive impact immediately, including as a rebounder and shot-blocker.
Walker’s jumper is a bit of a question mark. He shot 34.7 percent from 3-point range and 66.3 percent on his free throws during his lone season at Houston. His shot is improving to go along with his ability to set screens and finish around the rim. Walker could be viewed as a steal if falls this far, and the Wizards would love for him to start their potential rebuild.
