The aftershock of the Dallas Mavericks' decision to trade Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers continues to be felt two and a half months after Nico Harrison made the move, and fans are heartbroken with everything that has come along with it. These last two months have been a nightmare for DFW residents, and they may never wake up from the terror that the organization has caused over the last 73 days.

Mavericks fans can't believe that Harrison would want to trade Doncic less than a year after he led the Mavs to their first NBA Finals appearance since 2011, and rather than Dallas thanking him for everything that he did for the city, team, and fan base over the last six and a half years, they have mostly just dragged his name through the mud whenever they can behind closed doors, leaving no room for accountability for what is being said about the ex franchise cornerstone.

Outside of Doncic's homecoming game, which featured T-shirts on every seat in the arena and a beautiful tribute video that showed countless unforgettable moments from his time in Dallas, the organization has been continuously leaking things about Doncic's Mavericks journey that do not paint him in a good light.

From concerns about his conditioning, work ethic, effect on culture, and more, the Mavericks have been doing whatever they can to try to justify their decision to trade Doncic to the Lakers, and rather than making things better, it has only made things way worse, causing unprecedented levels of division and sorrow within the fan base.

Nico Harrison's excuse about Luka Doncic's future doesn't add up

"Fire Nico" chants rained down from fans during Doncic's return to Dallas last week, and Harrison and Rick Welts' closed-door press conference on Tuesday at the American Airlines Center exposed just how bad this trade truly was. Almost everything that they said just threw more salt into Mavericks fans' wounds, who are still mourning the trade, and once again, they couldn't be more out of touch with what Mavericks basketball is and what it means to the city of Dallas.

Harrison continued to double down on his "defense wins championships" mindset that has proven to be wrong thus far, and he also doubled down on one of the most controversial parts about the trade that still doesn't make sense to this day.

According to KDFW Fox 4's Sam Gannon, Harrison briefly talked about the possibility that Doncic wasn't going to sign the supermax extension he was due in Dallas this summer, and Harrison's take on it seems to be far from reality.

"Well there’s no guarantee he would have signed the supermax," Harrison said to reporters this morning.

The possibility of Doncic not signing the supermax has been debunked time and time again, including by Doncic himself, and Harrison continued to try to push the narrative that he possibly didn't want to sign it. Not signing a supermax extension would have been the worst possible thing he could have done when it comes to potential earnings, and all signs from Doncic before and after the trade have indicated that he intended to sign the supermax extension and stay in Dallas for his entire career, just like Dirk Nowitzki did.

Doncic never wanted to be traded from the Mavericks, and months before he was able to sign the biggest extension in NBA history, Harrison decided to trade him. Doncic was fully invested in winning a ring with the Dallas Mavericks, and that dream of his was ripped away from him by Nico Harrison. It couldn't be clearer that Doncic wanted to be a Maverick for life, and fans shouldn't be fooled when it comes to the circumstances behind this trade.

This move had nothing to do with Doncic not wanting to be a Maverick (as alluded to by Harrison's uncertainty that he didn't want to sign an extension this summer in today's press conference). It had all to do with Harrison wanting to get rid of Doncic as soon as he could against his will, and fans may never forgive him for this.
