The Dallas Mavericks' offense has been one of the top storylines this season. The team has had two games already, where they have scored 120 points or more. On Tuesday night, the team dropped 120 points on the Minnesota Timberwolves. They scored 35 points in the second quarter.

Kyrie Irving played a big role, as he had 35 points and five assists. His second-half surge helped pave the way for a Mavs' comeback. He knocked down six 3-point shots and wasn't afraid to attack the basket.

One player though who is having a good start to the season is Klay Thompson. The former Splash Brother is averaging 16.5 points per game and shooting 42.5 percent from the 3-point line. He is thriving in the Mavs' offense with Luka Doncic and Irving by his side. Some experts believe Thompson is the missing piece to help Dallas win the NBA Finals.

Mavericks prove they are the team to beat in the West behind OKC

The Mavs are going to need back Thompson down the stretch if they hope to earn a top spot in the Western Conference. Last season, Dallas finished with the fifth-best record in the West. The team trailed teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Denver Nuggets.

Many experts still think the Mavericks are not a top-two team in the West. Two weeks ago, NBA.com released their Western Conference standing predictions. One expert had Dallas finishing fifth, while the other predictions had the Mavs at third. They all had the Nuggets or Timberwolves ahead of them, with OKC at one.

Dallas however has responded to the so-called "debate." Over the summer, many speculated that Minnesota or Denver would be the second-best team in the Conference behind Oklahoma City. Yet, the Mavs have made a strong case for the number two team. All summer, the big talking point was always who would be the second-best team in the West behind OKC.

It was a consensus among most that the Thunder would be the best team in the Western Conference considering that they were the No. 1 seed last year and got better, and the Mavs have proved that they are the team in the West to beat behind the Thunder.

The Mavs are 3-1 to start the season. They recently beat the Timberwolves on Tuesday, after a night of back-to-back games. Dallas has also beat the San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz. Their only loss came against the Phoenix Suns on last Saturday, a game in which the Mavs' trio combined for 81 points.

The big turning point was the win against Minnesota. Dallas played well on both sides of the ball, and finished the game with 12 steals. The win basically solidified the Mavs as the superior team over the Timberwolves when looking at all aspects of the game. Dallas wasn't even at their best and still got the win.

Dallas currently sits in fourth place in the West with a 3-1 record. While both Minnesota and Denver have similar records at 2-2.

It is without question the Thunder are the top team to beat. They have a 4-0 record and are playing balanced basketball. The Mavs' early success adheres to the motion that they are the second-best team in the conference. Compared to Minnesota and Denver, the team is firing on all cylinders.

The Mavs will have another chance to prove themselves against Minnesota when the two teams tip off on Christmas. Assuming Dallas wins that game at home, there'll be no question about who is the better team.

The Dallas Mavericks will look to continue their dominance on Halloween when they take on the Houston Rockets tonight.
