Naji Marshall's future with the Dallas Mavericks was in doubt this week, as his name drew tons of trade interest at the trade deadline. Many teams coveted the Mavs' swingman due to his team-friendly contract and high impact on both ends of the floor. Dallas, though, made the right call by keeping him and not trading him. They held on to Marshall, as he has proven his worth to the team over the last year and a half, but especially this season.

It's a move that favors both sides. Marshall is having one of the best seasons of his career. Currently, he is averaging a career-high of 14.5 points per game and five rebounds. Plus, his offensive game has reached new heights compared to past seasons, as he can drive to the basket with ease and finish or pull up for a quick floater in the lane.

Marshall showed exactly why the Mavericks made the right call by not moving him on Thursday when he had one of his best games of the year against the San Antonio Spurs. The trade deadline passed less than six hours before the game began, and it was clear he played with a chip on his shoulder.

He finished the game with a season-high 32 points. On top of that, Marshall shot 57 percent from the field, and he had no problem getting baskets inside the paint and even drained four threes. He made it clear that he will be an important part of the Mavs' offense for the rest of the year and beyond.

Naji Marshall is meant to be a forever Maverick

His recent performance and commitment to the team outline why he is an important part of the Cooper Flagg era. He never wants to leave Dallas, and he is the exact type of player that Matt Riccardi and Michael Finley are looking for to build around the 19-year-old prodigy.

Recently, Marshall spoke out about his future in Dallas. He explained how he wanted to continue playing alongside Flagg and make history with the rookie. So, it's clear that Dallas heard his message loud and clear, as they kept Marshall after the deadline despite teams from around the association pursuing him.

The Mavericks have every reason to believe in his game. Marshall has reached an entirely new level this season. He is averaging career highs and improving his game day by day. His offensive skills continue to grow, including his deadly floater, which defenders struggle to contain. His arsenal has made him one of the most consistent role-player scorers in the league, as his smooth shot has become his trademark.

Marshall's floater, though, is only one part of his game. He is also a developing 3-and-D wing, something the Mavericks desperately need. His 3-point shooting is gradually improving, as he shot 57 percent from the 3-point line against the Spurs. This was an improvement from the prior game, when he made just one out of five 3-pointers.

Defensively, he is a menace who can guard multiple positions. He has solid length and active hands that force opponents into difficult situations. Plus, he makes hustle plays, as Marshall brings high energy to the team, even in the toughest situations.

Marshall is an all-around player Dallas couldn't afford to lose. They need him to help guide Flagg, as he'll be an important part of his development. Plus, he has been a solid complement next to the rookie.

It's scary to think that Coach Jason Kidd toyed with the idea that Marshall could have been traded at the deadline. However, those worries can officially be put to rest, as Marshall stayed put. His recent success and vocal leadership have shown that he is meant to be a Maverick for life. It'll be up to Dallas to lock him up long-term, as his contract expires after next season.
