Mavericks now have access to a dangerous jumbo lineup thanks to Zaccharie Risacher

Zaccharie Risacher's time with the Atlanta Hawks reached a breaking point last season after he saw limited playing time. Atlanta was ready to trade the former No. 1 pick to the Dallas Mavericks after just two seasons, a move that should have Mavs fans excited. One Mavs assistant coach spoke highly of the move, noting that the addition of Risacher will allow Dallas to tower over the opposition.

According to a recent article, Keith Smith of Spotrac spoke with multiple Mavericks staffers while at NBA Summer League. One thing he outlined was the team's excitement about having Risacher on their roster. The six-foot-eight forward will add plenty of size and depth to a Dallas team looking to take things to the next level after a rough season.

"We’re thrilled to add him to our mix. Big lineups with Dereck (Lively II), Morez (Johnson Jr.), Cooper (Flagg), (Zaccharie) Risacher and some like Sergio (De Larrea) could be a real thing for us,” a Dallas assistant coach said.

It seems the Mavericks have the perfect formula to become one of the top defensive teams next season, and Risacher should be the main difference-maker.

Risacher's game should take major strides in Dallas

Last season, Zaccharie Risacher's production with the Atlanta Hawks declined. His points per game dropped by three, as the newest Mav saw a downward spiral towards the end of the season.

One reason for Risacher's dip was his lack of minutes with the Hawks last season. He averaged 24.6 minutes per game in his rookie season and 22.6 minutes in the 2025-26 season. The biggest hit happened at the end of the season and playoffs, when the new Mavs wing failed to find playing time.

Risacher played 15.2 minutes per game in April, a four-minute difference from March. His decline in Atlanta spiraled from there, as he averaged seven minutes per game in the playoffs. It was a sign the Hawks were ready to move on.

Dallas, though, had other plans as they saw a hidden gem in the making. The Mavericks were ready to scoop up Risacher and likely grant him the playing time Atlanta failed to provide. They can give him more minutes while providing him a chance to be a key rotational piece within the roster. It's an opportunity that should allow him to make major strides with Dallas.

Plus, the idea of Risacher helping form a dangerous jumbo lineup would be the icing on the cake for the trade.

Mavericks' jumbo lineup is intriguing on both ends of the floor

Earlier this week, one Mavericks assistant mentioned the possibility of Dallas using a big lineup after acquiring Risacher. It's an outlined lineup that would move the former Hawk to the shooting guard spot. This would then allow the Mavs to put Sergio De Larrea, a 6-foot-6 guard, at point guard. A backcourt of Risacher and De Larrea would allow the offense to attack defenders head-on and force defenses to adjust to the big-ball play.

It's a lineup that has the potential to be dominant when used effectively. Offensively, Risacher is a great off-ball threat who can catch defenders off guard with his cutting. His shooting shouldn't go unnoticed either. Risacher shot 45.5 percent overall and 36.8 percent from the 3-point line last season.

On the opposite side of the ball, he would provide great length and size when forced to guard other shooting guards. His active hands would easily make things difficult for scorers trying to work around him. Yet, critics have overlooked Risacher's quickness and footwork, as he can easily guard multiple positions. His defensive assets are a reason Atlanta drafted him with the top pick in 2024.

Risacher must now do everything in his power to show why Dallas was right to believe in him. He was the first pick for a reason, and it'll be up to both sides to release his true potential; something that can start with a massive lineup with De Larrea, Risacher, Cooper Flagg, Morez Johnson Jr., and Dereck Lively II.
