The Dallas Mavericks are focusing on turning things around next season, as the NBA Playoffs are already out of reach. The team is firing up their tank, and every loss is becoming more important if they hope to improve their draft position. Dallas has made it clear they want to build around Cooper Flagg; this offseason will be key to the Mavs achieving their goal.

Some possible solutions to help jumpstart the rebuild process are trading for players who fit the Mavs' wants and needs. One name who would be of assistance is Memphis Grizzlies guard Cam Spencer. The young phenom has all the intangibles to solve Dallas' issues. He is someone Bleacher Report believes Dallas should have high on their radar as the offseason approaches.

They listed him as a top trade target for Dallas this summer. Bleacher Report explained that Spencer has all the intangibles the Mavs are looking for, making him a perfect complement to Flagg and Kyrie Irving. His skill set could help kick off the Flagg era in the right direction, beginning next season.

Why Cam Spencer needs to be on the Mavericks' summer wish list

It is without question that the Mavericks desperately need some ball-handling and shooting. The team lacks someone who can lead the offense and help replicate Irving's production while he's on the bench. It's clear that once Irving returns, he'll be able to solve some of the team's problems, but Dallas still needs someone who can shoot at a high level and give Irving a strong backup.

Memphis guard Cam Spencer is the perfect man for the job above. This is something Bleacher Report believes in. They outlined how Spencer "provides enough ball-handling and passing in tandem with lethal outside shooting to offset any gaps in a Kyrie- and Cooper-powered offense."

So, it's clear Dallas should at least consider a move for Spencer, as he would solve their guard problem. His ball-handling and playmaking chops as a combo guard are superior to those of any of the two guards on the Mavs' roster. Spencer has a keen eye for reading defenses, and he isn't afraid to make the right pass. His high IQ is present during pick-and-roll situations, which Dallas loves to run.

One thing that gets overlooked is the low assist-to-turnover ratio. Spencer does well at protecting the ball. This is shown in his highly efficient passes. Currently, he averages 5.5 assists and just 1.3 turnovers per game, a statistic that speaks volumes to his ability to prioritize efficiency.

How Spencer's 3-point shooting would revitalize the Mavericks' offense

Another component of Cam Spencer's game that Mavericks fans would love is his outside shooting. The Memphis guard is shooting the ball at a high level in his second season. He is currently shooting 47.9 percent overall and 44.4 percent from beyond the 3-point line. The reality is that his long-range shooting would be the perfect complement to a Mavs team needing major outside support.

Dallas currently has the third-lowest 3-point percentage in the entire league. Their best 3-point shooter percentage-wise is Marvin Bagley III, who is converting 41.7 percent of his 3-point attempts. Their second-best shooter is Max Christie at 41 percent. No one else is shooting above 40 percent from three.

The reality is Spencer trumps almost all of the Mavs' players from long range. His shooting is near the top of the West for second-year players, and he is an excellent playmaker as well. His skill set makes up for everything Dallas lacks. So, maybe the team should consider trading for Cam Spencer to add another youngster ahead of the Cooper Flagg era. His presence would easily elevate the Mavs' offense.
